The negative impact of sweetened drinks on your health

Negatívny vplyv sladených nápojov na vaše zdravie

Water is an essential element of life and the quality of the water we consume is crucial to our health. Unfortunately, many people believe that fresh water or water with a sweet taste is healthy, when in fact it is not. In this article, we will explore the topic of fresh water and why it is not healthy for us.

What is fresh water?

Fresh water is water that has a sweet taste, either naturally or artificially. Some natural sources of fresh water include spring water, well water, and rainwater, while artificial sweeteners, such as sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, can also be added to water to make it sweet.

Why is fresh water not healthy?

Sugar content

The main reason why sweet water is not healthy is that it often contains a lot of sugar. Sugar is a type of carbohydrate that provides energy to the body. However, excessive sugar consumption can lead to weight gain, tooth decay, and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

High fructose corn syrup

Many processed soft drinks, including sodas and fruit drinks, are sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. High-fructose corn syrup is a highly processed sugar that has been linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other health problems.

Artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose are commonly used in diet sodas and other low-calorie beverages. While these sweeteners are low in calories, they have been linked to a variety of health problems, including headaches, dizziness, and gastrointestinal problems.

Dehydration

Drinking sweet water can also lead to dehydration. This is because the sugar and other additives in sweet water can interfere with the body's ability to absorb and retain water. This can lead to increased thirst, dry mouth, and other symptoms of dehydration.

Dental health

Finally, drinking sweet water can also have a negative impact on dental health. The sugar in sweet water provides a food source for bacteria in the mouth, which can lead to tooth decay and other oral health problems.

How much sugar can we consume daily?

The health organization even recommends that it is beneficial to reduce free sugars to less than 5 percent of total energy intake, or about 25 grams per day. This is the amount commonly found in a glass of soda or juice.

How much sugar and energy do drinks contain?

Pure water provides no calories and should be the foundation of our drinking regimen. Unsweetened tea is also calorie-free and can be used to add variety to our drinking regimen.

However, if we reach for flavored drinks, whether it's lemonade or flavored water, we usually only get so-called empty calories in the form of sugar and unnecessarily increase our energy intake.

The devastating effect of sweetened drinks: They change human DNA!

A cola pumped with bubbles or a refreshing orange lemonade! In an instant, you eagerly drink the contents of the drink and enjoy its sweet flavor. However, the reality is that you will continue to be thirsty and gain weight. But that's not all!

No doctor or nutritionist would recommend you to drink sweet drinks in the form of raspberries of all kinds of flavors. Daily consumption of caloric drinks contributes to obesity, your teeth will start to rot and your immune system will weaken overall. However, regular sipping of such lemonades has even more frightening consequences! It gradually destroys human DNA, causes aging and thus shortens human life!

The latest study published by the American Public Health organization has come out with the truth to open the eyes of all consumers of sugary sodas. It showed that drinking cola drinks has a much worse impact on the human body than we thought. Thanks to research on over 5,000 adults between the ages of 20 and 65 in the USA, scientists have shown that sodas negatively affect our DNA! They found that those who drank 350 ml of cola drinks a day had DNA that was almost 5 years older.

Regular consumption of sugary drinks can have a detrimental effect on metabolism and contribute to several diseases. It also accelerates the aging of cells and tissues.

Regularly drinking sugary drinks is just as harmful as smoking! Both vices shorten human life. The culprit for premature DNA aging is probably the large amount of sugar hidden in sweetened soda. One liter of cola contains up to 27 sugar cubes.

Don't underestimate your drinking regimen

It is not for nothing that it is said that water is the basis of our life. Water is a liquid that has an irreplaceable function in the human body and without which we simply could not live. Water makes up approximately 60 percent of our body. This means that a person who weighs approximately 70 kg has 40-50 liters of water in him. Despite this amount, we are very sensitive to even a small loss of water, and a lack of water is much more dangerous for the body than a lack of food. While we can survive for months without food, we can barely survive a few days without water.

Drinking energy drinks

The best way to replenish your body's energy is undoubtedly quality sleep. Some, as a last resort, when a warm bed is still out of sight, reach for an invigorating energy drink. For others, this drink is a permanent part of their drinking regimen. How do these drinks actually affect our body? In the following article, we will answer the most important questions about them!

What do energy drinks contain?

Energy drinks are usually based on a combination of caffeine and sugar, which is supposed to boost the human body to increased physical or mental performance. Taurine is also a very common ingredient. This substance is very effective in combination with the aforementioned caffeine and helps to delay the onset of fatigue. In addition, various dyes or preservatives are added to this type of drink, which always depends on the specific manufacturer.

Some energy drinks contain other stimulants, such as ephedrine. This stimulates the central nervous system and helps to relieve fatigue. They also use extracts of guarana or Paraguayan holly, from whose leaves mate tea is brewed. Some manufacturers also add ginseng, B vitamins, a carbohydrate called glucuronolactone, creatine, or L-carnitine molecules. Artificial sweeteners help to mask the bitter taste of caffeine.

Can these drinks harm us?

It is true that too much of anything is bad. Long-term and excessive consumption of energy drinks can have a truly negative impact on human health. This type of drink puts a strain on the entire circulatory and nervous system or the stomach. Constant increases and decreases in blood sugar levels can negatively affect psychological balance and cause headaches. Energy drinks, when consumed frequently, also endanger the kidneys. The high proportion of fructose may contribute to their damage.

We also cannot forget that energy drinks are full of sugar. Excessive consumption of highly sweetened drinks increases the risk of obesity and tooth decay. Many studies have also confirmed other negative effects of these drinks, such as stomach pain or irritability. Although energy drinks are intended to recharge the body with energy, in the long term they can cause excessive fatigue and sleep disorders.

12 drinks that shorten your life

If you're trying to exercise regularly and eat healthily to improve your quality and length of life, then you probably know which foods to avoid. But do you also know which drinks to watch out for?

1. Alcohol – Drinking occasionally isn’t bad, but drinking regularly is a problem. If you drink alcohol four or more days a week, your risk of premature death increases by up to 20 percent. Hard alcohol is the biggest problem, but it applies to all types.

2. Sweetened fizzy drinks – the more sweetened fizzy drinks you drink, the greater your risk of health problems and death. According to scientists, every 3.5 dcl is associated with a 7% increase in the risk of death from any cause.

3. Diet drinks – while they may be better than regular sodas in terms of calories and sugar, they can be just as bad for your health. They also increase your risk of being overweight and obese, and they also affect your hormones, which can lead to inflammation. All of this can shorten your life.

4. Sports drinks – they improve performance, but potentially shorten life. Regular consumption increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and some types of cancer, including colon and breast cancer.

5. Energy drinks – although they give you energy, they are far from a healthy drink and if consumed too often, they can take years off your life. Among other things, they affect blood pressure and the electrical activity of the heart.

6. Coffee – There's nothing wrong with having one to four cups a day, but one study found that drinking more than four cups of coffee a day has a negative impact on your lifespan.

7. Sweetened coffee drinks – can be even more harmful than coffee itself because they contain a lot of sugar. These promote weight gain and obesity. Combined with increasing blood pressure, they can also increase the risk of diabetes.

8. Sweetened Iced Tea – A cup of tea has health benefits and may extend your life, but sweetened iced tea is often full of sugars or artificial sweeteners, making regular consumption associated with shortening life.

9. Fruit juices – the problem with them is their high sugar content, which is not good for your body. Drinking more than 2 deciliters of fruit juice a day significantly increases the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease, which can lead to premature death.

10. Smoothies from the store - although they are made from fruit, they are also a source of a large amount of sugars, and the more sugars in your diet, the higher your risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease.

11. Milk – according to Swedish scientists, excessive drinking of milk (at least 3 glasses a day) could lead to a shortened life because it causes chronic inflammation in the body.

12. Protein shakes – They’re great before and after a workout when you’re trying to build muscle, but as with everything, it’s important to consume them in moderation. According to one study, very high doses of protein reduce quality of life in the future and lead to an earlier death. Some products also carry additional risks in the form of toxins such as heavy metals, BPA, pesticides, and the like, which have also been linked to cancer.
